Welcome

Welcome to the Skiathos Cat Welfare Society (SCWS) Website. We hope you find our site interesting, informative and hope that in some way you will be able to help us; The ‘small’ Charity that does ‘BIG’ work!

The Skiathos Cat Welfare Society was formed by Peter and Sharon Hewing in January 2007. Previously known as Greek Cat Welfare Society- Skiathos, they received their first vet visit in 2005.

We believe by working together we can fulfil our objective of addressing cat welfare issues by raising awareness and being a direct voice in bringing about change in the Skiathos area and around the world.

We will endeavour to fulfil our goals by sponsoring various educational programmes, by partnering with organizations in the animal welfare community and by offering practical assistance for the wellbeing of cats.

The purpose of our Society shall be to :-

  • Foster a general awareness throughout the local community on the plight of stray cats
  • Engage the local, national and international community on issues having to do with Cat welfare
  • Make partnerships with various organizations to further expand opportunities to improve the wellbeing of the local stray cat population
  • Raise funds and to invite and receive donations to facilitate the provision of food, medication and veterinary services including neutering for the stray cat population

Since the start in January 2005 and up to our last voluntary vet visit (November 2010), we have sterilized in excess of 2,700 cats and have become a ‘first aid centre’ for sick and injured cats on and off site. Since March 2009 we have treated over 300 sick or injured kittens and cats.

Click here to see SCWS Sick Cat Diary. Our photo gallery will be regularly updated with all our Vet Visits, Fundraising events (on and off the island), Adoptions, Life-Time Sponsorships, Tourist visitors and much more…

Please look through the pages of our website to see what we do and how you can help us to help them.
