About Us
After caring for many homeless cats & kittens of Skiathos for several years, funding vet visits from the UK, medicines, & feeding, Peter & Sharon Hewing formed the Skiathos Cat Welfare Society in January 2007. One of the Society's aims is to stabilise the cat population through a sterilisation programme to prevent the suffering of unwanted kittens.
In summer, local volunteers run our information stand on the harbour, showing pictures of cats & kittens we have helped & the work of the society, & raising funds. Our first summer event, ‘Skiathos Day for the Animals', attracted 300+ visitors, including Greek, British, German, Canadian & American tourists & residents.
Recently, a volunteer vet provided by the Greek Cat Welfare Society sterilised 60 cats, over 30 of which were homeless, a great step towards the Society‘s aims.
