Sonja is an Austrian vet based in Athens who recently came to help the charity. In a very short time Sonja neutered 52 cats, numerous eye removals, dental work and much more. The torti kitten In the photos was the last surgery Sonja performed, and this lucky kitten was adopted by Sonja. Thank you Sonja for choosing this charity to share your professional skills with These neuterings are only made possible with donations, thank you so much. Despite many business people being very busy the local community once again kindly helped with the trapping of stray cats. Thanks to Kitty https://www.facebook.com/ammosbykitty/ Lia from https://www.facebook.com/TavernaStathisLia/ and Maia from https://www.facebook.com/AnemoniBeachHotel/ Thanks also to Aggelos you are one successful cat catcher. Some of you will know Oreo’s story…some will not…Its too harrowing to repeat but rather than focus on that lets focus on how well Oreo is doing. Saturday Night (17.6.17) between 18.30 -20.30 if you are in Skiathos come and meet Oreo at our donation kiosk in town at the DIVE SHOP just down from bus stop 4. He will be there (only if he doesn’t freak out in a cat carrier) along with Sharon. Come and meet Oreo and Sharon and have a chat about our work. We would love to meet you.
Despite finishing work very late, you wanted to help Sharon knowing she has no help at present..Thanks so much Sofia…Any offers for Friday & Saturday ?. Thank you so much. The rest of the photos in this collection are some from Miriam van Leijen who was part of the Dutch visit in May…There is however 1 stray picture in the collection of a cheeky animal eating the cat food…Shouldn’t be too hard to spot..
Due to unforeseen circumstances the Curry and Quiz nights have been cancelled. Agnadi Hotel is sincerely sorry as they really wanted to help us raise much needed donations. We understand it could not be helped and thank you for trying on our behalf
These two lovely ladies met in Skiathos whilst they were both on holiday in 2002 little did they both know at that time that the following year both would move to Skiathos. A truly remarkable friendship. There are 2 registered animal charities in Skiathos, both work very closely with each other and that is all down to these 2 ladies. Meet Sharon Hewing and Jan Virgo from the cat and dog welfare associations. These are the ladies behind the scenes who work tirelessly for the animals in Skiathos, who support each other when times are tough something that a lot of us, even the local community don’t see or realise. The animals in Skiathos are very lucky that we work closely together and what effects one effects the other. Both charities are very lucky there are so many animal lovers out there..
Thank you all for being there and for caring…. I wish…..
Thank you to Lyn, Sophie, Ben, Eleanore, Lynda and Sophie Disbray, Judy & Clare for answering our SOS for help….We have no help for tomorrow & Friday-Sunday if anyone fancies meeting and helping these adorable cats.
We said a tearful goodbye to Olivia Tessier on Sunday, this lovely lady had volunteered for a month. Arriving just in time for the Dutch visit, and then another vet visit which is still ongoing and so much more. Olivia what can we say, thank you doesn’t seem enough for all the hardwork, dedication and friendship to all those you have met during your time. Olivia put together this lovely picture, and said “Just a select few from my amazing time with Skiathos Cat Welfare Association have met some wonderful people and made some friends for life! And of course all those furry friends too! See you soon We all very much look forward to seeing you soon xx
In the winter of 2014/2015 Inge Jansen was our very first long term winter volunteer. During her time in Skiathos she rescued a black cat with a damaged leg and cared for her during her stay. The cat was called Nina. Inge never forgot about this special cat and last week after her and her family had enjoyed their Skiathos holiday, lucky cat Nina joined Inge on the return flight to the Netherlands and has now settled into a loving home of her own. Great to see you again Inge, thank you and your family for the donations, and most of all Thank you for not forgetting about the Skiathos cats and of course Nina xx
*SOS* From tomorrow and For 1 week only we have NO volunteers and we currently have a volunteer vet here neutering and treating as many stray cats as possible. Whilst I am not looking to hijack anyone’s holiday or take up lots of anyone’s precious free time, is there anyone out there who can spare a few hours next week to help Sharon? A variety of tasks on offer. Sharon cant bottle feed kittens, trap cats, see to all the cats, and much more. Any help no matter how small would be greatly appreciated
Sometimes paths are meant to be crossed… A message 2 years ago” Do you know what happened to this cat ” Led to much more. Richard and Yvonne have again returned to Skiathos but planned their holiday around helping us…. Arriving with a suitcase of donations, WOW, time, energy and friendship in abundance is very much appreciated. We have a volunteer vet here at the moment and these guys managed to get the cat at the harbour by Limmanki, who has many needs. You two are amazing…
Back in March we were contacted by Biddy Househam about fundraising from a raffle. Biddy adopted a Skiathos cat a few years ago, and is a regular to visitor to the neighbouring island of Skopelos. The raffle would be taking place at the World Animal Energy Conference in May 2017 in the UK. Biddy attended the event and a HUGE £550 was raised. In March when we were approached and we agreed with Biddy and the organiser’s to split any proceeds with Stray Care Skopelos who also work tirelessly for the stray animals. It is a nice feeling to be able to share with others and we each received £275 https://www.facebook.com/straycare.straycare Thank you Biddy for nominating the charity and to Marie Holliday organiser of the event and to everyone who attended and supported the raffle http://www.animalenergyworldconference.com/..
